Honeywell Building Solutions

Green is good. However, organizations must strike a balance between achieving environmental targets and making prudent financial decisions. That’s a key focus at Honeywell. The company helps organizations sift through the available technologies to find the right mix of building retrofits and renewable energy sources with the greatest environmental and financial drivers.

Since the 1980s, Honeywell has completed more than 5,000 energy-efficiency projects in facilities across the globe. In addition, the company has helped 5 million homeowners decrease their energy use through its work with utilities. Combined, this work is expected to deliver more than $5 billion in energy and operational savings.

These projects also include solar installations for a variety of organizations, including Luke Air Force Base in Glendale, Ariz., where Honeywell installed a 375-kilowatt integrated solar photovoltaic roof system. In total, the company has been tapped to install more than 6.7 megawatts of solar power for its customers. These installations will generate more than 11 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. And they are expected to reduce annual carbon emissions by 11 million pounds and nitrous oxide emissions by 12,000 pounds. According to figures from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, this is equivalent to removing almost 1,200 cars from the road or planting 1,400 acres of trees. The switch to a renewable energy source is expected to help these customers trim millions from their utility bills as well.

Overall, nearly 50 percent of Honeywell’s product portfolio company-wide is linked to energy efficiency. The company estimates the global economy could operate on 10 to 25 percent less energy by using today’s existing Honeywell technologies.
